Fashion Show Benefits Local Resale Store and Its Programs

[Marian Norris, Secretary of Chapter 1188 at Prothero Mobile Estates, sent this report.  Although this was put on by their Homeowners Association and Social Club, it’s a good example of something that a Chapter could do to aid their community.  –ED]

Prothero Park HOA and Social Club put on a Fashion Show in the Park on a Sunday afternoon during the summer and raised $200 and a lot of clothing for our local Laura’s House Resale Store that supports the Emergency Shelter, Transitional Housing, and Counseling and Resource Programs of Laura’s House through the resale of high-quality donated merchandise. The donations help to fund the powerful programs offered by Laura’s House in turn helping to end the cycle of violence for many individuals, families, and children affected by domestic violence.

13 Ladies resident in the Park modeled their own clothes in five categories: casual, going out to lunch, going out to dinner; going to a formal occasion and mother of the bride (photos attached for this last category). There was no charge for admittance, except donations were suggested, the tables were beautifully decorated and delicious refreshment served. The manager of the local Laura’s House store attended and told  about the organization and accepted the donations. It was a very friendly and happy afternoon, everyone had a good time.

Sundance MHP Making Appeal to 4th District Court

Here is the latest news from Chapter 1212 President Bob Wise on their rent raise case.   –ED.

“We want to thank the Escondido CEMV (Coalition of Escondido Mobile/Manufactured Home Voters) Board of Directors for their support to all Escondido Mobile Home Residents.  We look forward to the  lnitiative push for the MHP “Vacancy Control” measure that we hope will be placed on the 2016 election ballot , if enough signatures are gathered by CEMV in our fine CITY ! !

We are now appealing the Escondido Rent Review Board Decision for Sundance MHP from August2S 2013.  Some of the basis for this 4TH-District Court Appeal in San Diego California,  is the precedent of the 2005 California 4TH-District Court decision (with the same Judges still there) to uphold a fair rent increase of $31 per month, in the Berger Foundation -vs- the City Of Escondido solid decision.

That MHP Owner tried to get the COURT to enforce a much higher rent increase decision at Town & Country MHP,  from the Escondido 2002 Prop K Rent Review Public Hearing.

While the District Court ruled for the City of Escondido , their ruling was for “fairness” & the intention of the PROP K law to protect MHP Residents.

The COURT should recognize the SAME “fairness” issues as they effect the Sundance MHP Residents , which is very similar to the PROP 13 Property Tax restrictions that allow fair & equitable increases per year, to prevent financial evictions for long term California Home Owners & then for all of our long term PROP K protected Escondido MHP Residents, ALSO ! !

WE are told by our new San Diego City Appellant Attorney that it wil ltake another year for that August 2013 Sundance MHP outrageous 1-year RENT lncrease of $141 .44 to be studied in that California 4TH-District Court.   That court’s staff will have many more resources to study the “EVIDENCE”that was presented in our 1436 pages of “Administrative Record” that the Vista North San Diego County Superior Court only made a short & incomplete “Drive-By” decision .  We expect that when the evidence is thoroughly studied, the correct judicial decision can be made, not based on the political decision that the Escondido City Council made, while acting as the Rent Review Board!

It is powerfu lthat our local PROP K Ordinance was tested in the U.S. SupremeCourt in 1992 and upheld 9-0 and that the state of California’s leading MHP economic expery , Dr. Kenneth Baar , was involved in that precedent 2005 Berger Foundation -vs- the City of Escondido AND he wrote the expert REPORT at our Sundance MHP Rent Review Hearing in August 2013 that is included in our RECORD.”
