Successful Membership Drive for Chapter 1628

“Our Mobile Home Park is in Rialto, California, and we have 145 homes in our park”, says Julie Bell, Treasurer of Chapter 1628 at El Rancho Verde Mobile Home Estates.  “We have been trying to get more people to meetings, and we had a new member drive in June which gave us 4 new members.  From January 2015 to June 2015 we have added 13 new members.  We are planning another new member drive in September and hope to gain more new members.”

Sundance MHP Receives Bad News From Superior Court Judge

June 14, 2015

[Ed. Note:   See the April archive for the background on this rent stabilization court case.]   “The Sundance MHP Writ of Mandate challenge APPEAL against our 2013 Public Rent Review Hearing that our Escondido City Council made  has been decided by the Vista Superior Court Judge on June 14, 2015,” reports Bob Wise, president of Chapter 1212. “The Judge stated that he would allow the City Council wide discretion in their decision against the 29 (of 88) Residents that have Rent Stabilized protections.. This decision is seen as allowing the Escondido Rent Review Board to abuse their discretion beyond the intent of our 1988 Prop K Law which was upheld in the US Supreme Court in 1992, 9-0 ! This also shows that OUR minority rights do NOT result in much support for Mobile Homeowner Residents.”

Disaster Preparedness Workshop Held for Carpinteria Parks

June 30, 2015

Homeowners from several Carpinteria parks learned the basics of setting up a Disaster Preparedness and Response Team in their parks from Bev Swann, Disaster Chair for Rancho Santa Barbara MHP, and Pat Michaels, who is the head nurse for RSB’s Disaster Team. Bev described how RSB was divided up into areas and the areas divided into sections of 10 homes each, with a Point Person for each section and an Area Leader for each area. She also talked about the medical and disaster supplies the team has been stockpiling in laundry room closets and the Clubhouse. Most of the items have been donated, and things such as wheelchairs and walkers are made available for short term loan to RSB residents at any time. Pat brought her “Grab ‘N Go Kit” to show the residents, and lots of good ideas for how to get disaster information, CERT training, and supplies inexpensively were shared. It is hoped that those who attended will go back to their parks and begin working on a Disaster Team of their own. The workshop was hosted by Chapter 776 at Sandpiper Mobile Village, and co-sponsored by SCAMPR, an alliance of parks in southern Santa Barbara County, of which Sandpiper and Rancho Santa Barbara are members.

This Works For Us!

Chapter 708, Rancho San Luis Rey, in Oceanside, conducted our second annual Senior Products and Services Fair in the park clubhouse from 9 am to noon on June 27. We had 22 exhibitors, each of whom paid $75 to rent a table to promote their goods or services. Most exhibitors expressed interest in returning next year. Our chapter netted $1435 for our treasury, after expenses
